Rushmoor Borough Council Award Financial Support To Aldershot

Aldershot Town have confirmed that Rushmoor Borough Council has agreed to a package of financial support for the club, including rent and rates relief, until 2021.

Following on-field success in 2016/17, as The Shots reached the Vanarama National League play-offs, the support is the continuation of a deal agreed in October 2013 and reflects the value the club has within its community, and a willingness to work with the Council for the benefit of local people.

The sliding scale of support offered Aldershot Town full rent relief and 50% rate relief in the last financial year, with 50% rent relief and 80% rate relief in 2017/18. The 80% rate relief – in line with the figure awarded to community amateur sports clubs – will continue through to 2021, with rent relief also given at 25% in 2018 and 10% in 2019. Both clubs will then play full rent during the 2020-21 financial year.

Aldershot Town chairman Shahid Azeem said: “We are very grateful to Rushmoor Borough Council for listening to our case, and thank David Clifford, the Leader of the Council, for his support. We are delighted that our community work is being valued in this way, and we will continue to work very closely with Rushmoor on a strategy of community engagement which will hopefully develop our already strong relationship with the Borough.”

“Rushmoor and Aldershot Town Football Club have enjoyed a long relationship over many years,” continued Cllr Clifford. “However, under the committed chairmanship of Shahid Azeem, the relationship is at an all-time high and we are pleased with the great results the club are achieving on and off the pitch. We recognise the force for good the club plays in our community and are appreciative of the considerable charity work the club and fans support. Thank you, Aldershot Town Football Club, we are so proud to have you in our Borough”.
