Port Have Big Plans - But Now For A Manager!

Southport's historic Haig Avenue home is set to undergo a major redevelopment in the summer.

Ambitious new director Phil Hodgkinson, who came on board at the start of the season, plans to breathe new live in to the stadium with a new stand set to go up.

Managerless Southport hope to attract bigger crowds and their current main stand will be given a big overhaul.

Every seat in the Merseyrail Community Stadium will be replaced as the club look to modernise their ground to help grow their fan base.

Hodgkinson hasn't given up hope of the club relocating in the future and outlined why he feels it is important to give the ground a new lease of life.

"A new stadium is still the plan but the reality is there's no point spending millions building a new support if the support isn't there in the town," he said.

"We've got to begin a huge re-engagement process after years of mediocrity and the reality is we've got eight months to do as much as we can before the start of next season.

"We've got big plans for the football club and we're determined to do things properly. It may take a little longer than we'd like but we'll definitely get there."

Port are looking for a new manager after parting company with Alan Lewer at the end of September.
