New Year's Resolutions For National League Clubs!

By Steven Coney

What better time to improve things than at New Year? People love making resolutions but keeping them is another thing entirely.

We’ve had a bit of fun and picked out some resolutions for National League clubs that could help propel them to new heights in 2018.

What should your club be looking to improve on this year? Let us know on Twitter.

AFC Fylde - Be more stingy...

The surprise 5-2 victory over Tranmere Rovers on New Year’s Day was a result that sent shockwaves around the National League. Not just the win but the fact that Fylde scored five against a side that had conceded that same amount in their previous eight League games combined. The Coasters have conceded seven times themselves in their previous three games and if they can tighten up, the play-offs are a realistic aim.

Dagenham & Redbridge - Find their shooting boots…

The Daggers have been one of the most dangerous attacking sides this season so to see them struggle to put the ball in the net recently has been a surprise. They’ve scored only three times in their previous five National League outings and won just one of them. John Still’s side has plenty of quality in the final third and it’s surely just a matter of time until they find their form again.

Hartlepool United - Spend a bit more time at training…

It’s difficult to put your finger on what has gone wrong for Hartlepool this season. They appointed a manager with a proven track record and recruited a talented squad of players. The festive period provided just more frustration for Pools as they were beaten by Maidenhead United at home and drew with north-east rivals Gateshead twice. Maybe some more time on the training pitch could help as their next two games - against Dagenham and Wrexham - are tough.

Macclesfield Town - Don’t change…

New Year’s Resolutions are normally things that will improve you but what, realistically, can the Silkmen do to get better? They’ve exceeded expectations yet again this season and boss John Askey has done a fantastic job. He’s happy for their success to be low key but more eyes will be on them the longer they keep up their current run. They now have a six-point gap at the summit, are scoring plenty of goals and not conceding many - now that’s a recipe for success!

Wrexham - Start treating the travelling Dragons…

It’s no secret that goals have been the big issue for Wrexham this season. They showed promise on New Year’s Day by putting three past Barrow at the Racecourse but unfortunately, they also let three in at the other end. Dean Keates was pleased with the quality they showed going forward and they now need to take that on the road. Wrexham’s fans travel well and they deserve something to shout about. Keates’ men have won five times on the road this season but nine goals in 13 games is just not enough.
