What’s In Store In The National League South On Saturday?

By Sam Elliott

There is something riding on every single game this weekend but there really is only one place to start.

The National League South title could as good as be in the bag by the time Torquay United get on the coach back from Surrey to Devon.

Victory at second place Woking will mean it’s all over bar the shouting.

A draw, which would keep the Gulls advantage at seven points with four games to go, would place one hand on the trophy.

Gary Johnson has urged professionalism from his players as they look to make six wins in a row. A Woking win would mean there would still be work to do.

As well as first v second, it’s third vs fifth.

Welling United manager Steve King is loving life under the radar this season and his players have thrived.

The importance of finishing in the top three can’t be underestimated, the Wings boss says - and they can take a step towards home advantage in the play-off semi-final if they beat Bath City.

Rod Stringer’s Chelmsford will have something to say about that and will be watching events at Park View Road closely.

The Clarets are at St Albans City, who know only a win will do for their play-off dream.

Weston-super-Mare will be relegated if they lose to Dartford and other results go against them.

Any one of seven sides could fill the other two relegation spots.

East Thurrock are 21st, they will feel they need to take something from Wealdstone.

Gloucester City occupy the other place - and they could drag troubled Eastbourne Borough kicking and screaming into the mire with a win at Priory Lane.

Truro City had a good start to life under Paul Wilkinson at Dartford last week.

The White Tigers’ new boss takes charge of his first home game against erratic Oxford City - the Cornish club are just one point outside the drop zone.

Dulwich have spirit but aren’t yet safe. Their poor away form has them still in trouble and they are at Chippenham needing to put that right.

Hungerford’s magical March saw them win three and draw two. They take a hat-trick of victories into Saturday’s home game with a Slough Town side who also impressed last month.

Hampton are still not clear of danger by any means.

They are only four points above the bottom three and a trip to Billericay - needing to win to keep in the play-off places - wouldn’t have been on their weekend wish-list.

Saturday’s National League South fixtures:
Billericay v Hampton
Chippenham v Dulwich
Eastbourne v Gloucester City
Hungerford v Slough Town
Oxford City v Hemel Hempstead
St Albans V Chelmsford City
Truro City v Oxford City
Wealdstone v East Thurrock
Welling United v Bath City
Weston v Dartford
Woking v Torquay United
