The Friday Feature: Cooke Says Truro Distance No Problem

Cody Cooke says the side being located away in the National League South has its advantages.

It has been a memorable season so far for the midfielder and the side who are impressing in the National League South, writes Tom Feaheny.

The club are situated away from most of the other South sides, with away matchdays being unique in terms of the travel involved.

"We have some early morning but It's ideal now because nobody actually lives in Truro, and we meet in Exeter for away games. This means the further someone lives from Exeter is probably 40 mins or so," Cooke said.

"Previously, when I lived in Cornwall and a few other lads did we had some horrendous leave times, I'm talking 4:30 alarms!"

Cooke says the travelling time with the group is enjoyable due to the fact all the players get on.

"It gives us a great boding opportunity, we have no bad eggs in the team, everyone gets on and away trips is just like being with a group of mates for 15 hours or so.

"We've had some really good away days, and it's no coincidence we seem to do well on the road."

For someone from the area to represent the club, Cooke says it is an honour to be part of a successful team.

"It's great to have a club doing so well in the county. It means a lot to a great deal of people. It's difficult for a lot of fans to keep in touch with us though and understandably. Lots of Cornish teams are 4/5/6 leagues below us.

"We are continuing our form on the pitch, and the possibility of a new ground being built, can only add to the county as a whole and our core fan base."

Cooke recently made it to 250 appearances for the side and says it is an honour to play for a team that means so much to him.

"250 appearances at the age of 24 is a dream come true really. Something I definitely did not envisage when I made my debut. I've been lucky that every manager that's come in over the last sort of sevens years has played me, and 99% of the time I have been in the staring 11.

"Of course I've had some difficult times but I've worked very hard to get where I am, and am eternally grateful for the chances I've been given and support along the way."
