Team Of The Weekend: National League South

By Sam Elliott

It was a free-scoring day in the National League South - so you’ll forgive us for being a little top heavy when it comes to team selection!

Just the 41 goals in the 11 games make sure it was another fantastic weekend in the league.

That doesn’t make picking the Team of the Weekend any easier, mind you.

With defences not so much on top on Saturday, we’ve opted for a 3-4-3 formation. Of course, we can’t be at every match - as much as we would love to be!

If you aren’t familiar with our process, we call on eyes and ears up and down the country to make sure our selection is as close to spot on as possible.

But it’s just not football if everyone agrees! Got a point to make? Then make sure you message us on twitter to get your voice heard @TheNationalLge

National League South Team of the Weekend:

Goalkeeper: Daniel Wilks (Whitehawk)
How unlucky were the Hawks again on the road, a later Bath City leveller stopped them getting another win but keeper Wilks was courageous.

Defender: Sam Avery (Gloucester City)
City are on a good little run but they needed to be defensively stable at home to Concord Rangers. Avery was excellent.

Defender: Anthony Acheampong (Welling United)
Welling got one over play-off rivals St Albans and Acheampong kept the Saints fearsome attack in check.

Defender: Tom Bonner (Dartford)
How the Darts needed that win at Wealdstone. Bonner kept them going to the final whistle.

Midfielder: Max Kretschmar (Hampton)
Two more goals from midfield couldn’t mask a frustrating day at Chippenham Town for the title chasing Beavers.

Midfielder: Richard Gilot (Bognor Regis)
Their result at home to Braintree keeps the club’s survival hopes alive. Gilot early goal got the Rocks going.

Midfielder: Anthony Church (Chelmsford)
The star performer in the 3-3 draw with Hemel Hempstead. Controlled the midfield and unlucky not to be on the winning side.

Midfielder: Lloyd Dawes (Eastbourne)
Excellent again in midfield and MOTM at Poole Town. Eastbourne are finding their feet.

Striker: Jason Prior (Havant)
His first goals since November were enough for Havant to overcome Hungerford and slide into second place

Striker: Gavin McCallum (Eastbourne Borough)
In great form, just like his club. Grabbed a brace as the Sports eased past Poole Town 4-0.

Striker: Sam Nombe (Oxford City)
He inspired the club’s turn around at Truro City with two goals with his club now seven points clear of the bottom three.

Substitutes:

Ismail Yakubu (Hemel Hempstead)

James Guthrie (Chippenham)

Ed Williams (Gloucester City)

Danny Mills (Dartford)

Jamie Philpot (Welling)
