Super Salford Shine As They Blow Fylde Away At Wembley

By Sam Elliott

Salford City secured their place in the Football League with a ruthless display at Wembley in the Vanarama National League Promotion Final.

Five short years on from the Class of 92 investing in the then-Evo-Stik North club, the Ammies are in the EFL.

They became the first ever side to secure back-to-back promotions in two National League seasons after easing past AFC Fylde 3-0.

In front of football royalty in co-owner David Beckham, they reigned supreme under the Arch.

City did the damage after striking early in each half. Mani Dieseruvwe latches onto a loose ball in the box to fire Salford ahead inside a quarter of an hour.

He made the most of bad fortune for the Coasters as a clearance by Neil Byrne came off the back of Luke Burke and fell perfectly for the forward.

Free-scoring defender Carl Piergianni needed just eight minutes of the second half to double their advantage.

He was just too strong in the box and powered home a header giving Jay Lynch no chance.

The centre-back has been doing it for the past few months and wasn’t going to be denied a Wembley goal.

In a week which saw two so-called football miracles, AFC Fylde were in need of another on the hour mark.

Ibou Touray's cross-cum-shot found it's way in, in off the post. It looked all over with half an hour left.

It didn’t come and Dave Challinor’s side had no response as Salford secured their Football League status to the joy of some famous faces in the crowd.
