St Albans Announce The Re-Signing Of Bender & Herd

St Albans City have announced that Tom Bender and Ben Herd have agreed new deals for the 2018/19 season.

Twenty-five-year-old Bender joined the Saints in January 2016 from Forest Green Rovers.

He started his career at Colchester United where he made his debut aged just 16 in a League One match against Hartlepool United.

Loan spells at Accrington Stanley and Chelmsford City followed, while he moved to Championship outfit Millwall on a one-year contract in March 2013.

He spent time on loan at Welling United and then linked up with Dartford in the summer of 2014 where he made sixteen appearances, including two appearances in the FA Cup.

Despite being born in England, he has represented Wales in various different age groups, including their under-21 squad.

Herd (pictured), 32, joined St Albans in May 2016 to re-unite with his former Boreham Wood boss Ian Allinson.

He began his career in 2003 when he signed pro with Watford after coming through the academy ranks.

After spending two years with Watford, he left without making a first-team appearance. He made his name though at Shrewsbury Town, signing for the Shrews in June 2005 he went on to make over 140 appearances in four seasons, which also included an appearance at Wembley in the League Two play-off final which they lost 3-1.

Following his release from Shrewsbury he signed a two-year contract with then-League Two side Aldershot Town, clocking up 150 appearances in four seasons and picking up player and players` player of the season awards.

He was released at the end of the 2012/13 season and in 2014 joined Dunstable Town, where he was made club captain.

Herd joined Boreham Wood in February 2015 and played a part in their promotion via the play-offs to the Conference Premier for the very first time.

However, following the conclusion of the season, Herd left the club and signed for Hemel Hempstead Town, from whom he switched to Hertfordshire neighbours St Albans.
