Southport Sink Chorley But Watson Has A Message For Leaders

Southport manager Liam Watson was happy to settle a very big score on Saturday.

But even though his team flattened the National League North leaders, he feels Chorley will still go on to take the title.

Port thrashed the Magpies 5-3 - a result very much welcomed in Stockport on Saturday night.

Watson says that win set the record straight after his team put in their worst ever performance in his time in charge back in August when they went down 4-0 to the table toppers.

“That was one of the worst moments ever as a manager,” he recalled.

“It was embarrassing. Our fans really deserved a performance because of what happens that night.

“I don’t think many people who played at Chorley played in this game but they are wearing the same shirt.

“We have given ourselves a bit of pride back and Chorley can see for themselves how much we have improved.”

Watson added: “They are top of the league for a reason and I’m sure they are still going to go on and win the title.

“I’m delighted with the win, I’m delighted with the work rate and I’m delighted with the performance.

“People will say ‘well you have conceded three goals’.

“But the game was always going to be wide open because they are such a strong side. It’s a fantastic result.”
