So When Could The National League Title Be Won?

The champagne was put back on ice for Macclesfield Town on Saturday as they couldn’t quite get themselves over the line.

Leyton Orient, and later on Tranmere Rovers, spoiled the party - there was no Vanarama National League title won this weekend.

Orient came from behind to register a 1-1 draw in the BT Sports live game, while Micky Mellon’s men kept up their great form to see off Aldershot Town 2-0 thanks to James Norwood’s well-taken double.

But there is a possibility that it could be done and dusted by Tuesday evening.

Macclesfield aren’t playing, but the only team that can catch them are... and they need to avoid defeat to take it to Saturday.

The Silkmen will be confirmed as the 2018 champions if Tranmere lose at Dover Athletic in midweek.

A point isn’t quite enough to crown this year’s champions. A draw at the Crabble would mean Rovers could technically overhaul John Askey’s leaders, even with an inferior goal difference.

If Tranmere come back from Kent unbeaten, then Macclesfield will need only a point from this Saturday’s game at Eastleigh to get the champagne corks popping.

We’ll be there every step of the way as the season reaches its climax.
