Sheridan Aims to Bolster Attacking Options Before Season Start

Chesterfield boss John Sheridan continues to look to add to his Spireites’ squad, with attacking players the main focus for attention.

Despite scoring the joint-second most goals in the division following the turn of the year, the Manager is eager to add firepower before the season gets underway on August 3rd.

A Premier League forward has been on trial with a view of a potential loan move, whilst Head of Recruitment/ Chief Scout Charlie Williamson remains on the hunt for additional options.

“I need two strikers,” Sheridan admitted.

“I’m quite comfortable everywhere else. In the attacking areas, I would like to get someone in, whether it’s a wide man or a centre forward.

“I do know what I need and what I’m trying to get.

“We’ve identified players it’s just trying to get them and for the right deal for us”.

Chesterfield picked up 33 points during 18 games after Sheridan’s return to the Proact in January- more than any other Vanarama National League side during that period.

Sheridan is pleased with the way things have gone during his first summer since returning to the Club.

Eyes will be firmly set on returning to the EFL at the second time of asking.

“There were some good things in the game for us”, he said after Saturday’s narrow defeat to League One Rotherham United.

“It’s still pre-season. We were playing against a team who were in the Championship so it was a good runout for us.

“There were some good things, but there were also some things we still have to work on to make ourselves better.

“It’s important for everyone to get some game time. Hopefully, my players will learn from coming up against higher-level teams and quality players.

“We’ve told everyone to think that they’ve got a chance to play in the team”.

Chesterfield welcome Dover Athletic to Derbyshire on the opening day on the 2019/20 season.
