Saviours forced to stand down at Steelmen

Two of the directors who helped save Corby Town in a takeover four months ago have been forced to quit their posts at the Vanarama National League North club.

The Steelmen say Stevie Nicol and Tony Muir, who both played a key roles in the consortium that took over the club in April, have stepped down due to “increasing business commitments away from football.”

In a statement, the club said: “The board of Corby Town Football Club is disappointed to announce that both Stevie Nicol and Tony Muir have stepped down as directors of the club.

“Both Stevie and Tony played a key role in saving the club, as part of the consortium that took over in April 2014 and have shown great commitment and dedication to help the club to progress during the past 16 months, culminating in last season’s league championship.

“On behalf of everyone at Corby Town we would like to thank Stevie and Tony for their significant contributions and hard work in helping to get the club to where it is today, and we truly wish them both every success in the future."

The statement added: “Without any doubt they are both Steelmen for life and know that they are always welcome at Steel Park.”

Steelmen manager Tommy Wright and his squad kick off their campaign at Curzon Ashton, promoted via the play-offs from the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League, on Saturday.
