Saunders 'Lost For Words' After Late Stones Collapse

Maidstone United’s long winless run was extended on Saturday with a heartbreaking late defeat to Tranmere - and boss Jay Saunders was lost for words.

The Stones led twice against Rovers at the Gallagher Stadium but an own goal and penalty in the last five minutes sent Maidstone to a seventh defeat in eight National League games.

Saunders’ side haven’t tasted victory since November 11th when they beat Torquay United 1-0 and they are just five points above the bottom four.

The Stones face an important game at Solihull Moors on Saturday, knowing they will have to bounce back from yet another disappointing result.

Saunders told Kent Online: “I’m a bit lost for words. That’s been us on this run, to be honest. We’ve been in games - we’ve not been out of them.

“I don’t want to say it’s not going for us because I don’t want to blame it all on luck as it’s been on a long run but it’s hard to take.

“For large parts of it we were OK but for whatever reason, we’ve lost the game again.

“It’s hard to take because for the majority of the game I thought we defended really well but it’s just a couple of lapses in concentration.”
