Parkinson: Alty Heads Can't Drop, We Have To Go Again

Phil Parkinson believes his Altrincham side have punched above their weight all season but admits defeat in the play-offs was 'tough to take'.

Alty's first season back in the National League North ended with a penalty shoot-out defeat to Chorley on Sunday.

And after spending most of the season in the top seven, Parkinson believes they can look back and be proud.

"It’s extremely tough to take. Going down to ten men, being one up and being so close to seeing the game through," he told the club's official video service.

"Conceding and to go out on penalties the way we did makes it very difficult to take.

"But we can take a lot of confidence from this season. The players know they’ve probably exceeded expectations – we’ve got a middle of the table budget so that shows how much we’ve punched above our weight all season.

"I’m bursting with pride. Not only with the performances on the pitch but where this club has come from where it was two seasons ago is astronomical.

"I’m a winner and I want to win things," he added. "That’s why I came here, I want to progress and do well. We won a championship last year and it’ll stick in the throat all summer that we were so close. It’s not going to be easy but that’s the thing that drives us forward and it’ll be our motivation next season."
