Owers: There's Plenty Of Fight Left In Torquay Yet!

Boss Gary Owers believes Torquay United’s point at leaders Macclesfield Town on Saturday shows they have plenty of fight left in them - and a win on Saturday could start a climb.

The Gulls remain bottom of the National League table but left Moss Rose with an unlikely point thanks to Elliott Romain’s goal.

Owers’ side are ten points adrift of safety still but he hopes ending their run of four straight defeats will spark an upturn in results.

They need points quickly and host five-from-bottom Barrow on Saturday as they look to taste victory for the first time in ten matches.

Following Saturday’s draw, Owers told the club’s website: “We were more resilient and defended really well when we had to.

“At times it was for long periods in the second half but the most pleasing factor for me was people would have thought that we would have come here today and got nothing.

“The lads have shown that there is plenty of fight, and plenty of spirit, and plenty of character left in that dressing room.

“No-one’s enjoyed the run we’ve been on. We’ve got off that run of defeats.  It just gives us something to have a go at next week now.

“If they don’t get any confidence from a point away from home against the league leaders, they won’t get any confidence from anything.”
