Not For Sale! Gulls Boss Doesn’t Want Top Players Sold

Torquay United manager Gary Owers is working overtime to keep the club’s top players at Plainmoor.

In an interview with Devon Live, the Gulls boss said he is also trying to sign a ‘relegation beating striker’.

Owers says the club can’t be doing business for their better players with the club fighting to stay in the Vanarama National League.

Torquay host Bromley on Saturday in what is already a critical game for the club.

The manager is earning his money in the January transfer window and confirmed that interest is growing in some of the Gulls’ top players.

“Yes, there has been interest from other clubs,” said the former Bath City boss.

“When I have been enquiring about a striker, I’ve had other managers saying they would like one or two of our lads.

“But that’s not what I am trying to do – I am trying to keep players, not lose them.”

Without a win in seven, Torquay need to put a winning run together and quickly.

Effectively 12 points from safety with time running out, the manager needs a performance on Saturday in front of the club’s home fans.

“We all know what’s been missing, but I thought the team played OK against Eastleigh,” he told the website.

“We have to start winning, and we are going to have another go against Bromley on Saturday.”
