National League Schedule: Race For The Play-Offs

By Tom Feaheny

The race to get a play-off place in the National League looks like it will go down to the final day with six spots up for grabs this season, we've looked at the teams still on the look-out for one.

While Macclesfield Town and Tranmere Rovers both look at the title, there are a number of teams wanting a play-off place, writes Tom Feaheny.

Gary Waddock's Aldershot Town are third in the table with a late win against Maidenhead United helping them gain an important three points and victory against Gateshead. They have been in and around the play-off places all season and have the experience of the previous campaign as well, when they lost in the semi-finals.

Sutton United are fourth with another win needed to confirm a play-off place, they face two other sides looking to finish in the top seven places.

Boreham Wood have shown what an unpredictable league it has been with a fine win against Wrexham followed by a loss at FC Halifax Town, Luke Garrard's side though beat Chester to get back to fourth in the league.

Dave Challinor's AFC Fylde had seen four wins in a row propel the Coasters, though they did lose to Maidstone United. It would be a fine achievement for them to get into the play-off places after their promotion from the Vanarama National League North last season.

Ebbsfleet United who like AFC Fylde gained promotion last season, Daryl McMahon's side have faced Wrexham, Macclesfield Town and Dover Athletic in recent weeks and left with seven points, they also have the most games left to play with five still to go.

Wrexham see their final match against against AFC Fylde that could be absolutely vital.

Now for the two sides outside of the top seven but certainly looking in, Dover Athletic have a game in hand on the Dragons, while last season the goals of Ricky Miller were key this time round it has been a squad full of them that has helped the side to be with a chance of getting a play-off place.

Whoever gets a play-off place will have certainly earned it as this dramatic season comes to an end.
