McFadzean Earns Lions Deal

By Steve Whitney

Following impressive performances in pre-season friendly matches, Guiseley AFC have signed former Kilmarnock and Sheffield United academy product Callum McFadzean.

The 23-year-old full-back or midfielder was a member of the Sheffield United academy side that reached the final of the FA Youth Cup in 2011, scoring in the first leg of the final against Manchester United.

The brother of MK Dons defender Kyle McFadzean, Callum was promoted to the Blades’ senior squad and made his professional debut in the first game of the 2012/13 season.

Following a handful of substitute appearances that season, McFadzean was handed a more prominent role by caretaker-manager Chris Morgan following the departure of Danny Wilson in April 2012.

After a number of first-team starts at the tail end of the season, McFadzean came off the bench to score the winning goal in the first leg of United’s play-off semi-final against Yeovil Town.

Following his successful end to the season McFadzean had his contract with the Blades extended in June 2013.

McFadzean started the following season as part of the first-team but was side-lined by injury during September.

Following the arrival of new United manager Nigel Clough, he joined Chesterfield on loan and had further loan spells at Burton Albion, playing for them in the play-off final at Wembley.

In July 2014, McFadzean re-joined Burton Albion on a six-month loan deal but was then ruled out for two-months after breaking a metatarsal.

He later joined Stevenage on loan and was released by the Blades at the end of the 2015/16.

He signed for Scottish Premiership club Kilmarnock in June 2016 and then moved on to National League South side Alfreton Town in March 2017.

He made five appearances for England under-16s and later switched allegiance to play for Scotland at under-21 level in 2015.
