Local Lad Hogan Delighted With Salford's Progression

Salford City captain Liam Hogan is from the area and after joining the club in the summer has seen the transformation that has happened in the last few years.

The Ammies find themselves top of the Vanamara National League North, after last season missing out on promotion via the play-off places, in the summer Hogan was brought in from the league higher, writes Tom Feaheny.

After making the move from Gateshead in the summer, Hogan was named club captain just before the season started and so far they have made a fine start to the Vanarama National League North season.

"As a lad from round here to be seven points here with so much of the season gone means a lot to me, we kept unbeaten on the road last weekend against Tamworth which was a tough game, now we want that home win to back it up," Hogan said.

"We are over a third of the way through the season and for any team to lead a league you have to show consistency, we have faced a lot of the teams in and around us, we've dropped points at home and we've reacted to that the best way possible, we've won our last five and are top of the form table.

"We have to aim for automatic promotion, that was the case at the start and now obviously that's the same, we don't want to be in the play-offs as it is such a tough set of games you will play."

Hogan says that the recruitment of new players is crucial to how they are doing but also keeping on winners from the last seasons.

"We have a group of players with the right mentality, we have players like Richie Allen and Mike Phenix they were here last season and some have been longer as well, that is crucial to have that winning attitude."

Hogan who decided to move down a division after leaving Gateshead, said he has no regrets as he knew so much about the club and those who are at Salford City.

"The project is something I wanted to get behind, I've loved it so far, it's a club I knew well before hand, we have a great group, the managers are people we enjoy playing with, we are pushing each other, we won't stop until we win this league.

"We had our friendly last week, it was a fun day playing against some of the heroes that I watched as a kid, you can see the profile of the club as each month passes, we relish the opportunity to show what we are all about.

"I worked not too far away from the ground previously, so I can see the changes that have taken place, even things like being able to play the Class of 92 is something that was special, I grew up watching the likes of Scholes, Giggs and the Neville brothers, so to know that they are doing here is something special."
