Limbrick: We'll Be Back And Even Better Next Year!

By Sam Elliott

Anthony Limbrick was full of praise for fans and for his players despite seeing Woking's magnificent FA Cup run ended by ruthless Peterborough United.

The Posh may have eventually ran out convincing 5-2 winners but that didn’t tell half the story.

Storming in front through Inih Effiong, they even equalised through Matt Young when the League One club found their feet to go ahead.

But Peterborough’s class told late on as they wrapped the tie up and it’s they who travel to Aston Villa in the New Year.

Limbrick says watch out for his side next year as they have designs on concluding some unfinished business

“We had great character and great spirit - there is nothing more I could have ask of them. They gave everything,” said the Cards’ Australian manager.

“I thought maybe the scoreline flattered them a little bit, although our keeper has made a couple of good saves we’ve missed a few chances up our end as well.

“We saw a League One team being clinical, maybe we saw them just a little bit better in all departments than us. Grant McCann (Peterborough manager) was really aggressive with his attacking style.

"We knew we had to keep their attacking players quiet, and maybe when we got it back to 2-2 we didn’t quite do that, but I can’t criticise the players.”

Nearly 600 Woking fans made the trip to the ABAX Stadium and they were outstanding from start to finish.

“I thought our fans were unbelievable,” the manager said. “I thought we were the home team at times. They just kept singing, even when we were 4-2 down - they could tell we gave everything.

“I knew when I first got the job how important it was to have a cup run. Three games have gone to replays and you can tell how much it means to everyone, but next year we’re aiming to go one step further.

“The FA Cup run has been a great experience. We’ve learned a lot from it and we’ll be back next year to go again and to go one stage further!”
