Let's Not Get Too Excited! Pennock Wary Of More Twists

By Sam Elliott

Ady Pennock doesn’t want his players resting on their laurels after his fantastic start to life in the Holker Street hot-seat.

The new manager has taken six points from a possible nine on offer - and Barrow out of the National League relegation zone.

They looked like a side capable of firing themselves up the table this afternoon, securing a 2-0 win at Eastleigh with goals from Byron Harrison, and a fantastic second-half strike from defender Jimmy Dunne

It was Barrow’s first away win since April when they won against Braintree and although it was a long-time coming, Pennock is happy his players are making up for lost time.

“It was a very important three points - it’s our first away win and one we really needed them,” the new boss said.

“It’s a great return, six points from three games I’ve got to say. It was di to lose against Macclesfield. They scored two great goals but we should have been clear by half time but it was actually a good performance, we had a good go.

“It’s only small steps. I need to remind everyone we’re not getting carried away because we have a very big game on Tuesday night against Gateshead who are going great guns since Steve Watson came in.”

Out of the bottom four and looking up, Pennock knows things can twist back equally as quickly as they have recently turned.

“We’re still not out of it, but I would have taken six points from nine if it was offered to me when I came in.

“We want to keep our feet firmly where they are and where they should always be, on the ground. Yes it’s been a good start from my point of view but as I say, small steps and let’s not get carried away with anything.

“Eastleigh is a very difficult place to come but we looked very strong and it was great to see the lads play the way they did. We looked like a side who can score goals.”
