Keates: No Panic Over Wrexham's Slow First Week

By Sam Elliott

Dean Keates believes Wrexham are crying out for a new striker after firing blanks this afternoon at Dover Athletic.

It’s consecutive 1-0 Saturday defeats for the Dragons after last weekend’s loss to Macclesfield.

Just three points from three games isn’t what the fans would have wanted but their manager isn’t pushing panic buttons yet.

“I wasn’t too high when we won at Maidenhead on Tuesday night and I won’t be too low tonight,” he said. “We’re only three games into the season. I’ve been very lucky in my career and won some things but never have I won anything after three matches

“Not take our chances in the first half was the problem really. We got into good areas but didn’t take. The positive was the first 15 minutes.

“After Dover scored it wasn’t the reaction we were after. They are direct and physical and they are man to man all over the park but second half we didn’t do enough.

“If their keeper is only making one save we aren’t doing something right and that needs to be addressed. We’ve made no secret of the fact that we’re a forward light and we need to get a new face in.”

Keates’ side face on Tuesday night game against Gateshead and it’s a match they need to win.

“It is going to take time for the new players to gel,” said the manager. “We’re going to look back on it and learn from it.

“We’re still optimistic and we know nothing is won or lost inside the first month.”
