Holt's Match Fitness Will Take Time

By David Richardson

Grant Holt knows he's still weeks away from being ready to start Vanarama National League matches for Barrow.

The former Norwich City striker made his return debut in the Bluebirds 2-0 defeat at home to Macclesfield Town.

Holt left Barrow in 2003 for Sheffield Wednesday but re-signed for the club this week from King's Lynn Town.

He came on in the 70th minute yesterday but couldn't help Barrow turn the deficit around.

"We can only take the positives from what we've done," Holt said. "We've got in great positions, good bits of play and we didn't do the end bit the way we needed to. That's what we've got to work on.

"I'm just building up minutes, I've been doing that for weeks now. You've just got to keep doing it/ I'm 36, I'm fit but whatever you do outside of football you can never replicate being on the pitch.

"The good thing is now I'll have a good week of training. Playing wise, you're looking at a good two-three weeks until I'm up to full fitness and looking for a start."
