Gulls Linked With Lambert - Owers Reveals All!

After rumours swept social media on Monday, Torquay United manager Gary Owers has finally put fans out of their misery.

No, the Vanarama National League strugglers will not be signing former England striker Rickie Lambert.

Twitter was awash with stories saying the ex-Liverpool and Southampton man was missing football and that he was ready to come out of retirement.

But alas, the speciation was just that - Torquay won’t be making Lambert pull on his boots again.

Owers told Devon Live that no, they wouldn’t be making their biggest signing for years.

“That’s the first I have heard of it,” said the manager, who took over after leaving Bath City in September.

“I haven’t enquired about another striker, but he is at a National League club.”

Torquay need to bring a forward in, and Owers said that showed against Maidstone United at the weekend - a defeat which keeps the club second from bottom and six points from safety.

“At the minute, one shot is enough to beat us,” the boss said.

“We are not getting results, and I am getting sick of handshakes from other managers saying you're a good side and you'll get out of it, don't worry about it.”
