Gannon's County Starting To Get It Right On The Road

Jim Gannon says Stockport County’s new-found resilience on the road is “a sign of things to come”.

The manager watched his team beat FC United of Manchester 1-0 at Broadhurst Park - and it was their first clean sheet on their travels.

County are still five points shy of a National League North play-off places, even though Matt Warburton’s winner helped erase the memory of recent poor away losses at Southport and Harrogate Town.

Gannon says their result at their neighbours was impressive considering the Red Rebels’ excellent home record since they made a managerial change.

“It was our first clean away from home in the league and I think it was a sign of things to come,” Gannon said.

“That was a trademark performance that we had last year. If we would have done that kind of thing more this season then we wouldn’t be looking up at so many clubs.

“There were so many aspects that pleased me. FC United have been brilliant here and I think Tom Greaves has done a brilliant job - he’s pulled them right out of a difficult situation. If they carry on like they have been then I think they have a great chance of finishing in the top ten, so this was a good results for us.”

Gannon added: “If we did a bit better in the final third we could have put the game to bed.

“Both teams couldn’t get the adrenaline going but in the first half I thought we looking really threatening. We dug in and we got the result that we needed.”
