Fresh Blow For Chester As Captain McCombe Departs

Chester’s fight to stay in the National League has been dealt a blow with the news that captain John McCombe has left the club.

The popular defender arrived in the close season from Macclesfield Town but the Blues have announced he is to depart.

Chester are struggling on and off the pitch and this weekend face a crucial match against Woking.

This morning, manager Marcus Bignot told the Chester Chronicle that coach Micky Moore, the former Barrow manager, could no longer commit after working on a voluntary basis.

The club announced this afternoon: “Chester FC can today confirm that defender John McCombe has departed the club.

“McCombe joined in the summer following his release from Macclesfield – and was subsequently named Club Captain for the 2017-18 season.

“The 32-year-old made 23 National League appearances for the Blues – as well as one game in the Emirates FA Cup against Kidderminster.

“We’d like to place on record our thanks to John for his time and effort whilst at the Swansway Chester Stadium.”

Ahead of the game with Woking, Bignot said: “With all that has gone on off the pitch, we still have a job to do on it and we are not giving up hope or throwing in the towel.”
