"Crazy" Moments Cost Moore On First Day On The Job

By Sam Elliott

Micky Moore believes he could have had a winning start to life in permanent charge of Barrow but for a “crazy” three minute spell at the start of the second half.

Sutton United, the new leaders, punished their errors after half time having gone it at the break level.

United’s 3-2 win means the Bluebirds have won just once since manager Paul Cox quit nearly a month ago.

Paul Doswell’s team scored twice just after the re-start and Moore wasn’t happy that they shot themselves in the foot.

“We gave ourselves a mountain to climb and you can’t do that at places like this because they are good enough at home already,” said the new boss, who was confirmed three days ago as their full-time manager.

“It’s was a couple of crazy mistakes in a few minutes at the start of the second half, they were suicidal moments and we needed to do better.

“You don’t mind losing games of football if the opposition has played well, but we gifted them goals. The third in particular was hard to take. Our centre-back and full-back colliding together, it makes life difficult.

“I thought we equipped ourselves quite well, we had a right good go at it but we gave ourselves an awful lot to do.”

Barrow have taken just two points from their last four games and their next match is Saturday when they host Maidstone United.

“We need to get that next win as soon as possible,” said Moore. “But we also need things to start going our way.

“We’re losing a player every game through injury or suspension at the moment and we need things to turn in our favour a bit.”
