Cowan Fears He Filled His Players’ Heads With Praise

Gavin Cowan fears he may have been too nice to his AFC Telford players.

The Bucks have started the National League North season superbly after their struggle last season.

But they came undone 3-0 at Darlington on Saturday after taking 13 points from a possible 15 before it.

In an interview with the Shropshire Star, Cowan says maybe he flattered his players too much after that great run.

“Maybe I have to take responsibility myself, maybe I’ve praised them too much and they’ve received too much adulation and thought they were going to come to Darlington and roll over a team that haven’t been doing well,” he told them as he looked ahead to Saturday’s game with Stockport County.

“We’re going to find out a lot about them. If I was an AFC Telford supporter, more than ever, I’d want to get down and watch that game because they’re going to see a reaction.

“I knew at some point this would happen, and I’m excited now to see what happens, I’m excited to see that reaction.

“I’m the coach, and I’ll make sure they’re fired up more than ever to make sure we get back on track.”
