Barrow's Backline Are Making Their Manager Proud

Barrow manager Ian Evatt really has a case for the defence at the moment.

The Bluebirds’ backline is one of the stingiest around in 2019 with few sides able to get through them.

They have now kept four clean sheets in their past six matches.

Barrow continued to show their defensive improvement when they won 1-0 at Sutton United on Saturday.

Evatt must love what he sees - he was of course a former no-nonsense central defender with Blackpool and Chesterfield, who prided himself on shutting out strikers.

He is certainly passing on his wisdom with Barrow noticeably progressing since he took over in the summer.

He said: “The fact that we are really difficult to score against gives you a great chance in any game.

“Sutton are well drilled and well coached but we looked strong at the back and even though we scored late I think we deserved our three points.

“The clean sheets have been coming more and more and it’s an important sign.

“In the National League you have to be organised or you get found very quickly.

“The players deserve a lot of credit as they are improving week after week.”

Barrow are ten points off the play-offs but manager Evatt won’t rule out a late surge.
