East Thurrock`s Higgins Reaches 250-Goal Landmark

It might not have been the result East Thurrock United were hoping for as they went down to a 3-2 defeat in a highly-entertaining derby game with Concord Rangers last Saturday but those present witnessed Sam Higgins reaching the rare milestone of 250 club

That total includes no less than SIXTEEN hat-tricks for the Rocks.

Higgins first joined the Rocks in October 2009, scoring his first ever goal for the club in the 3-0 Isthmian North win over Wingate & Finchley at Rookery Hill in October 2009.

After scoring 37 times in his first season with East Thurrock, he was signed by Chelmsford City, then playing two divisions higher than the Rocks in Conference (National League) South during the summer of 2010.

Although he had scored 16 times for City, and was the Clarets leading scorer, he never really settled at the club and returned to the Rocks in February 2011, helping them to the league title and promotion to the Isthmian Premier.

Higgins stayed with the Rocks for their first two seasons back in the Isthmian Premier, but during the summer of 2013, he was once again tempted to try Conference football, this time over at Concord Rangers.

However, as with the earlier Chelmsford move, come February Higgins returned once again to Rookery Hill.

Higgins had one more brief spell away from the Rocks, as at the start of the 2014/15 season he joined National League Bromley for a short spell, but was back in the Rocks fold by late August.
