Doswell Doesn't Want U's Golden Period To End Yet

Paul Doswell wants Sutton United’s ‘golden period’ to last a little bit longer as his side look forward to Sunday's play-off semi-final and a potential trip to Wembley.

The U’s ended their regular season on a high, beating play-off rivals Aldershot Town 2-1 at Gander Green Lane.

It secured third place for Sutton and a home semi-final. It’s been quite the season for the U’s - much like last term and the one before that!

National League South champions in 2016, Doswell’s side made it to the FA Cup fifth round in 2017.

They have secured their highest ever League finish this campaign but know there is still so much on offer.

Doswell told SUFCtv: “It’s been a fantastic season. For a club of our size to get into the play-offs, a part-time side with a medium-sized budget - it’s an incredible achievement.

“It was a very proud day. It culminated the end of a three-season golden period for the club."

The U’s will host Boreham Wood after they defeated AFC Fylde on Thursday night with the prize of Wembley on offer.

Doswell added: “It’s going to be like an FA Cup game. We’ve got a capacity now of 4,688 and I’ll think we’ll hit that.

“The Sutton public have got the chance of watching their team get to Wembley and I don’t think any of us thought that could have been possible.”
