Dean: Brackley Have Strong Platform For Season

The Saints captain is optimistic about the new campaign.

Gareth Dean believes the club can move on from their seventh placed finish last season, writes Tom Feaheny.

Town who got their pre-season campaign underway by defeating League One side Shrewsbury Town, will be aiming to be fighting for promotion this season.

Dean who went up from the Vanarama National League North previously with Solihull Moors told the club's website.

"The progress we made last season has given us a platform for the coming campaign. Last season we had a strong core squad but not always the strength in depth. We want to be challenging at the top end of the table. The manager has brought in some new players who bring quality and experience and will add to what we’ve got.”

Kevin Wilkin has added four players from Solihull Moors in striker Andy Brown, defender Connor Franklin, goalkeeper Danny Lewis and midfielder Jack Byrne. Dean says he knows them all well.

“They will add quality to our squad. The gaffer looks for quality players but also the person. He wants winners and players who have the personality to fit in. We have a good dressing room with plenty of banter but also players who are dedicated to the team.”

Town will get their Vanarama National League North campaign underway against FC United of Manchester, this is a match the defender is looking forward to.

"Playing FC United first will be a good challenge because they appear to have signed well with experienced players at this level and they are well supported so it’s a good one to start with and to look forward to for sure.”
