Curzon Inflict Third Successive Defeat On Telford

By Steve Whitney

Pre-season optimism that this could be a season when AFC Telford United become challengers at the top end of the table under Rob Edwards is beginning to wane after just four matches.

Monday night saw Curzon Ashton earn a 1-0 Tameside Stadium victory – their second of the Vanarama National League thus far – and condemn the Bucks to a third straight defeat.

However, Telford fans in the crowd would have been reasonably happy with their team`s performance, if not the result.

What proved to be the only goal of the game came after 51 minutes when Joe Guest`s low cross was fired home past Jasbir Singh by Niall Cummins from close range.

Edwards` side went on to dominate possession after that, but were unable to penetrate the home defence, despite a decent showing from their latest signing, striker Marcus Dinanga, who joined yesterday on a season`s loan from Burton Albion.
