City Hoping To Make Use Of Extra Play-Off Spots

Oxford City are eyeing up the Vanarama National League South's extra play-off places says manager Mark Jones.

City finished 14th last season and following the expansion of the play-off spots from four to six across all three divisions, now they want to push on.

Teams finishing in sixth and seventh place will qualify for the one-legged play-offs with second and third proceeding straight into the semi-finals at their home ground.

"We're ambitious, we want to aim high," said Jones. "There's two more play-off spots available so we've got to be aiming for that and get into those positions.

"But there'll be several teams in our league looking to do that and thinking they've got a chance. We've got to concentrate on what we're trying to do and make sure our performance levels are good."

And on their opening game this Saturday, August 5th, Jones said: "We're looking forward to starting our league campaign at home against St Albans. They'll want to come here and put on a good performance.

"Hopefully we can make a good start to the season. There's seven games in August, which is a lot, and we want to make sure that, come the end of the month, we're in and around the top half."
