Chester Keep Up The Heat As Title Rivals Drop More Points

Chester joint manager Anthony Johnson knows the full value of his team’s win over AFC Telford.

In a day of dropped points at the top of the National League North, the Seals kept up the pressure.

They may still be four points behind the new leaders Bradford (Park Avenue) but Johnson says their 2-1 win was all about keeping to their end of the bargain - and damaging another side vying for promotion.

“It was a six pointer, Telford would have gone level on points with us had they won so it was important we didn’t let that happen,” he told Chester TV.

“They’re a good side, even with ten men. It was just about getting the job done but we played really well.

“We went in and saw other sides have dropped points but that’s going to happen - we’ll all have blips along the way it’s the nature of the beast.

“We’ve put ourselves in a great position going into Christmas,” Johnson added.

“Coming back from going a goal down, that’s big physiologically. Their goal upset us a bit but the result and performance were fantastic and it gives us real momentum.”

Chester face Liam Watson’s Southport on Boxing Day before heading to Hereford.
