'Brave' Sutton Get Their Reward And Go Top Of National League

By David Richardson

Sutton United climbed back to the summit of the Vanarama National League with an injury time winner at Dagenham and Redbridge - a result of their bravery on the night says manager Paul Doswell.

The U's have now won four of their five away games and claimed the best of the lot on Tuesday night - watch match highlights here.

Corey Whitely gave the hosts the lead but Sutton legend Craig Dundas scored a crucial goal before half-time and then Kenny Davis headed in a late winner.

The result was enough to lift Sutton to the top again, and further dispel their 3G pitch advantage, Doswell said: "I think the players have to decided take the 3G thing very seriously and prove we're just as good on grass! Joking apart, I thought it was a magnificent team performance, but we weren't happy at half-time. We got bullied a bit in the first 30 minutes.

"The goal changed our half-time team-talk to a certain extent but we weren't passing the ball enough. It was too long, uninspiring and I thought Dagenham were the better side in the first-half.

"If you see the substitutions we made and that Kenny was kept being asked to make one more run, he showed what a great asset he is tonight because that was a great header.

"The plan was to go big and strong for the first hour. We knew they'd had a long trip to Hartlepool and that does have an effect. We felt with half an hour to go our pace could hurt them and we went brave."
