Brad Glad But Boss Hopes For Repeat Show Next Weekend

Lee Bradbury was pleased by Havant & Waterlooville’s fantastic win over AFC Wimbledon - but won’t let himself be too pleased!

The Hawks manager watched his team roll the Dons over 4-1 on Friday night.

It was the second conclusive victory over League One opposition this summer having already dispatched Wycombe Wanderers.

The Vanarama National League South side look in fine fettle but Bradbury will spend the weekend keeping everyone’s feet on the ground and keeping expectation is check as his players head to Ascot races.

“I’m happy, but I’ll be a lot happier if that’s the result on the first day of the season!” said the manager.

“If we perform that way and that well again next week against Barrow then we’ve got every chance of getting what we want on the opening day.

“This result doesn’t earn us any points but what it does do is give us great confidence.

“I didn’t expect us to run out 4-1 winners I’ve got to be honest. It’ll do the players’ confidence the power of good.

“We’ve won well against a decent League One side after beating another League One side here a few weeks ago. It's encouraging yes, but let's remember everything is different once the real action begins. We're going into a strong, strong league."

The win over the Wombles saw first friendly goals for new man Nicke Kabamaba and Alfie Rutherford, who notched twice.

“What made me really happy was the fact that, as a part-time team, we did so well and showed such great fitness levels against a full-time club who train every day.

“We defended well and the players took their chances. We had a few of the forward players get off the mark for goals in pre-season and that’s just what you want.”
