Billericay Town Make Statement of Intent with Trio of Signings

Billericay Town have bolstered their squad ahead of the new Vanarama National League South season with the announcement of three new additions.

The trio all have experience at a higher level than the sixth tier, and will be hoping to make their mark early as ‘Ricay look to contest a hotly anticipated South division title race.

Defender Gavin Gunning, previously of Birmingham City and Dundee United, arrives at the Steel Team Stadium having helped guide Forest Green Rovers to the League Two play-offs last season.

Doug Loft featured in the Essex side’s match versus an All-Star XI, made up of former Premier League players, during pre-season. The midfielder soon put pen to paper after the expiration of his contract at Shrewsbury Town.

The third signing is Craig Robson, a player who featured heavily in Barnet’s run to the FA Cup Fourth Round last season, captaining the side in the process.

“I am really pleased to have signed Doug, Craig and Gavin,” said boss Harry Wheeler, in an interview with the Essex Echo.

“Doug has been with us for a few weeks, whereas the other two signings came around quickly.

“I knew we needed more depth in that area of the pitch and Glenn (Tamplin) came up to me with Gavin and Craig.

“All three players will strengthen our options and it’s fantastic to have them on board.

Billericay Town host a match with Eastbourne Borough on the opening day of the 2019/20 on August 3rd.
