Billericay Owner Tamplin Makes Bold Claim

Glenn Tamplin has made his prediction for the National League South title winner with the new season hours away- his own side Billericay Town!

In part two of our exclusive chat with the colourful Blues owner, he certainly doesn’t go around the houses.

The businessman has funded the Essex club by ploughing in his millions and he says he won’t stop there.

“We will win the league, I’m happy to be on the record with that,” states Tamplin, whose side travel to Torquay this weekend to take on Truro City.

“I want the FA Trophy too, but the league is our main aim this year. I would rather be honest with what I want because people know how ambitious we are.

“Should I be saying we’ll win the league? That’s not for me to decide! I’m sure I’ll get zingers for this, I do for everything I say,” he laughed.

“Last year maybe I came across the wrong way. Too serious, I’m a football fan and love the spirit and banter that’s involved. Twitter didn’t help. I only post now and again now.

“I’m marmite, I get that but I won’t stop. It’s easy to throw in the towel but I’m determined to take this club to big things.”

Just think, football nearly missed out on Tamplin all together.

“I used to want to be an actor,” he said. “I then just wanted to be involved in productions, the lighting, the music maybe.

“That’s me with football as well. I played a bit, wasn’t amazing. Tried it as a manager then left Harry (Wheeler) to it. He is in charge of this team, not me. I’m here if it’s needed, but that’s it. I’ll do what he says and let him guide me. If he wants my input he gets it, if he doesn’t, I won’t be anywhere near.

“I’ve learned a lot from my first year in football. Maybe I made life easy for the haters, but this year I’m going to make it a bit harder!”

He has even managed to cut costs over the summer. Tamplin now says he’s getting value for money.

“I have build as side for half the cost and it’s even better than it was,” he said. “We’re confident, not arrogant. People get me wrong sometimes but football is there to be enjoyed. Last year we were a big fish in a little pond but this season it’s a whole different story.

“We’re not going anywhere and we ready for the challenge and to put Billericay on the map properly.”
