By Steve Whitney

Barrow AFC have announced the signing of central defender Jimmy Dunne on a half-season loan deal from Premier League side Burnley.

Dunne, 19, hails from Dundalk and captained his home-town in Northern Ireland’s Milk Cup.

He represented the illustrious St Kevin’s Boys Club earlier in his career which has seen the likes of Damian Duff, Stephen Carr and Robbie Brady rise through its ranks.

Dunne was spotted by Manchester United’s Belfast academy at the age of 10.

At 16 he moved to Manchester and rose through their academy sides, making over twenty appearances for their under-18 team in the 2015/16 season.

He joined Burnley on a free transfer last summer.

Following his debut for their under-23 development side in a friendly against Colne FC, he went on to become a prominent member of their squad last season.

Dunne, who is with the Bluebirds until January, will join up with the squad for pre-season training ahead of the club`s first friendly against Blackburn Rovers at the Furness Building Society Stadium on Saturday.
