Another Double Deal For Spennymoor

Spennymoor Town have completed a third double transfer swoop of the summer, signing midfielder Matthew Dixon and forward Jake Orrell.

The pair became the Moors’ fifth and sixth signings, following the captures of Ryan Hall, David Foley, Jordan Porter and Chris Chantler.

Both players arrive at the Brewery Field from a higher level, with Orrell joining from National League new boys Hartlepool United and Dixon from new league rivals North Ferriby United.

Pacey attacker Orrell joins after a disjointed campaign with Pools last season, where he found first-team starts hard to come by, making twenty appearances.

Orrell almost joined Moors on loan in February, but saw clearance issues prevent the deal from going through.

Former Hull City youth captain Dixon (pictured) made his debut for the Tigers in August 2015 against Accrington Stanley in the League Cup.

Following a successful loan spell with Gainsborough Trinity, he left Hull and joined York City, then of League Two.

After a year with the Minstermen, he finished last season with North Ferriby in the National League.

Spennymoor manager Jason Ainsley has signalled his delight at the business done so far. He told the club`s official website: “Jake is a very talented young lad with quality in both feet and who can play anywhere across the forward line. We tried to get him in last season but unfortunately for us Hartlepool ended up hanging onto him.

“He has impressed in pre-season and we look forward to seeing him play in a Spennymoor shirt.

“I’m equally as delighted that Matty has put pen-to-paper after a successful trial. He has captained Hull all the way through their youth system and is a very intelligent midfielder who uses the ball very well. He will be a fantastic addition to our squad.”

Orrell began his career in Sunderland’s youth academy, before joining Gateshead in January 2015.

He went on to earn a professional contract at Chesterfield, before joining Pools at the start of last season on a free transfer.

He said: “I’m really excited for the season ahead. The few training sessions I’ve had already have shown me that it’s a very well-run, professional football club with a great bunch of lads and quality coaching staff.

“It’s a club that will keep progressing over the years and hopefully I can play a part in that this season.”

Like Orrell, and every other player who has joined the club this season, Dixon cited the Moors’ ambition as a major factor in his decision.

He said: “Where the club is headed is one of the big reasons I’m delighted to have joined. After meeting the management team, I got a good feeling about how confident they are about the coming season in the National League North.

“Hopefully I can get a good pre-season under my belt and be ready for the challenge ahead”.
