Ainsley Praises Moors' Character After Alty Thriller

Jason Ainsley thought his side showed amazing character in Spennymoor Town’s 4-4 draw with Altrincham, writes Tom Scott.

But he made no bones about the poor defensive work of his team after falling behind three times in the game to a well-drilled Altrincham side.

Speaking to the club’s YouTube channel after the game, Ainsley said: “It was one of those games – every time they went forward they looked like they were going to score, every time we went forward we looked like we were going to score.

“As a manager, you’re picking the bones out of everything there. They had a good side, take nothing away from them and they passed the ball very well.

“We didn’t deserve to win the game, we did well to get a draw out of the game. They came here and played well but if you score four goals at home you need to win the game and we haven’t done that.”

Despite being frustrated with the way in which his side conceded four goals, Ainsley was under no illusions that the visitors were one of the better teams in the division.

“We showed immense character again,” he said. “We’re still undefeated, there’s positives there but we certainly need to address the defensive side of it, not just the back five, the team as a whole.”

“Altrincham will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season, they’re playing with confidence and it showed today.

“This league is a tough league, you’ve only got to look at today’s results and you realise it’s a kamikaze league - any team on any given day can win,” he added.
